Boris Senker was born in Zagreb in 1947. In 1966 he graduated from the Pula Gymnasium. He studied Comparative Literature and English at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, where he graduated in 1971 and received his PhD in 1982 with a thesis on the theatrical output of Milan Begović. He started working at the Department in 1971; he was awarded tenure at the Section of Theatre Studies in 1996. He is the Head of the Postgraduate and Doctoral Study of Literature, Performing Arts, Film and Culture. From 1990 he is associate editor at the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography in Zagreb, first working on Theatre Bibliography published in 2004 and then on Theatre Lexicon. He was on the editorial board of the Prolog magazine and book imprint, and the editor of theatre reviews at the Republika magazine in two terms (1985-1990 and 1995-2000). He had been awarded the Fulbright Grant and spent the period from January to June 1985 in New York at NYU. He participated in international conferences in Croatia, Italy, France and the United States. His professional interest is focused on drama and theatre in the Renaissance and the 20th century and on theatre directing.
