OPIS KOLEGIJA: Uvod u proucavanje grcke knjizevnosti i grcke starine, te u metodologiju kojom se sluzi klasicna filologija; pregled povijesti klasicne filologije; upoznavanje s pomocnim filoloskim disciplinama (paleografija, kritika teksta); kratak pregled klasicne knjizevnosti i njezinih vrsta.

10. CILJ: Temeljno razumijevanje klasicne civilizacije; poznavanje filoloske metode kritike teksta i hermeneutike, te osnovnih instrumenata filoloskoga rada koje ce studentu omoguciti uspjesno sudjelovanje u kolegijima visega stupnja.

CONTENTS: The course offers a short survey of Greek literature; an introduction to the study of Greek antiquity and to the discipline of Classics and its methodologies; an overview of the history of classical philology; and an introduction to philological auxiliary disciplines (paleography, textual criticism)

10. OBJECTIVE: Basic understanding of Classical Civilization; knowledge of the scholary method of textual criticism and hermeneutics; solid acquaintance with the instruments for philological work which will enable students to successfully take part in higher grade courses.

OPIS KOLEGIJA: Na kolegiju ce se proucavati grcka epska poezija, slijedeci njezin kronoloski tijek od Homera do Nona, posvecujuci posebnu pozornost trajnome i presudnome utjecaju anticke epske knjizevnosti na potonju zapadnoeuropsku knjizevnost. Citat ce se i analizirati odabrani ulomci iz Homera, Hezioda, Apollonija Rodjanina i kasnijih pisaca. Raspravljat ce se i analizirati relevantni suvremeni prilozi interpretaciji antickoga epa.

CILJ: Razumijevanje pojma »epske poezije« u kontekstu anticke knjizevnosti i razlike izmedju usmene i pisane poezije; upoznavanje antickoga epa i njegovih generickih konvencija na temelju citanja primarnih tekstova; poznavanje i razumijevanje promjena koje je ta knjizevna vrsta dozivjela u antici, te njezina utjecaja na potonju zapadnoevropsku knjizevnost.

9. CONTENTS: The course studies Greek epic poetry following a chronological scheme from Homer to Nonus, introducing students to the epic poetry of the Ancient World and its continuing influence on later Western literature. Readings include selected passages from Homer, Hesiod, Apollonius and later poets. Modern literary criticism on epic poetry will be discussed and analysed.

10. OBJECTIVE: On successful completion of the course students should have acquired an understanding of what is meant by »epic« in its ancient literary context and how oral epic poetry differs from written poetry; they should also have gained an appreciation of ancient epic through the reading of primary texts and have developed an understanding of the changes in the epic genre in antiquity.

OPIS KOLEGIJA: Prevodjenje i interpretacija odabranih ulomaka iz Pjesme o Argonautima Apolonija Rodjanina, jedinoga epa prije Vergilijeve Eneide koji se po opsegu i gradji moze usporediti s Homerom. Na temelju samostalnoga istrazivanja, uz primjeren nastavnikov nadzor, studenti tijekom semestra prezentiraju najprije usmeno, a potom u pisanu obliku, originalan seminarski rad koji obraðuje neki od vaznih aspekata Apolonijeva epa, njegova mjesta unutar helenisticke knjizevnosti ili njegove relevancije u odnosu na helenisticku knjizevnu teoriju.

CILJ: Razumijevanje mjesta helenistickoga epa u kontekstu razvoja zanra i njegovih konvencija, te njegove uloge unutar sirega drustvenoga i knjizevnopovijesnoga konteksta; kompetentno vrednovanje znacenja knjizevnopovijesne mijene generickih obiljezja te knjizevne vrste; razumijevanje vazne posrednicke uloge helenistickoga epa u povijesti zapadnoeuropske knjizevnosti.

9. CONTENTS: Students will translate and interpret the Argonautica by Apollonius Rhodius, the only epic before Virgil's Aeneid that could be compared with Homer in subject and extent. Working independently with appropriate supervision each student will present orally and in writing an original piece of scholarly work, concerning some of the important aspects of the poem or its place within the context of ancient literary history and Hellenistic poetics.

10. OBJECTIVE: On successful completion of the course the student should be able to place Hellenistic epic within the context of the development of the genre and its conventions, and within wider social and literary-historical contexts; to identify and assess the significance of trends, themes and patterns in the history of epic as a genre; to understand the often underestimated importance of Hellenistic epic within the history of Western literature.

9. OPIS KOLEGIJA: Na kolegiju ce se proucavati povijest grcke epigramatske poezije od klasicnoga do rimskoga doba, te njezin utjecaj na potonju zapadnoeuropsku knjizevnost. Na primjerima ocuvanih djela znamenitih grckih epigramaticara (Kalimah, Leonida, Asklepijad, Argentarije, Meleagar, Filodem, Palada itd.) studenti ce se upoznati s povijesnim razvojem zanra i njegovih konvencija, te njegovim odjecima u poeziji novoga vijeka. Raspravljat ce se i analizirati relevantni suvremeni prilozi interpretaciji antickoga epigrama.

9. CONTENTS: The course will introduce students to the history of the epigrammatic poetry from the Classical to the Roman period and its influence on later Western literature. Students will familiarise themselves with extant work of famous Greek epigrammatists (Callimachus, Leonidas, Asclepiades, Argentarius, Meleager, Philodemus, Palladas etc.) and with the development of the genre and its conventions. Modern literary criticism on epigrammatic poetry will be discussed and analysed.

10. OBJECTIVE: On successful completion of the course the student should be able to place individual Greek epigrams both within the genre framework and within wider social and literary-historical contexts; he or she should also be able to identify and assess the significance of trends, themes and patterns in the history of epigram as a genre and to understand the differences between Greek epigram and later epigrammatic production.

OPIS KOLEGIJA: Na kolegiju ce se proucavati grcki knjizevni epigrami u rasponu od klasicnoga do rimskoga razdoblja i vjezbati prevodjenje i interpretacija na primjerima odabranih epigrama iz Grcke antologije. Na temelju samostalnoga istrazivanja, uz primjeren nastavnikov nadzor, studenti tijekom semestra prezentiraju najprije usmeno, a potom u pisanu obliku, originalan seminarski rad koji obradjuje neki od aspekata anticke epigramatske produkcije.

10. CILJ: Koristeci se stecenom jezicnom kompetencijom studenti ce prosiriti razumijevanje grcke epigramatske poezije i osposobiti se za njezino tumacenje; to ce dokazati samostalnim istrazivanjem i pismenim radom.

9. CONTENTS: Students will explore Greek literary epigrams, from the Classical to Roman period, practising translation and interpretation of selected epigrams from the Greek Anthology. Working independently with appropriate supervision each student will present orally and in writing an original piece of scholarly work, concerning some of the important aspects of the genre.

10. OBJECTIVE: Students should be able to apply their linguistic knowledge to the comprehension and interpretation of Greek epigrammatic poetry in fine detail, and to present a substantial and independent argument in writing.
