Sadržaj: 

Ovaj dio kolegija obuhvaća pragmalingvističke sadržaje, problematizirajući prije svega komunikacijsko djelovanje jezikom, različite oblike komunikacijske interakcije, govorne činove, funkcije teksta i dr., s posebnim obzirom na vidove jezičnog djelovanja važne za prijevodni proces.

Cilj: Upoznati studente s temeljnim pojmovima pragmalingvistike te osvijestiti mogućnosti i dosege

djelovanja jezikom  i time ih pripremiti za što svrhovitiju i što primjereniju upotrebu jezika prilikom

prevođenja.

Description

1.       

Orientation, syllabus. Overview of topics. Definition of terms: what is pragmatics (the Continental vs. the Anglo-American definition). What is translation (review)? How to combine the two?

2.       

Functions of language (Jakobson). What is an utterance. What are the issues involved in an utterance? Context and co-text as part of an utterance.

3.       

Continued: context & co-text. Situational context, background knowledge. Co-text. Language and the context.

4.       

Translation as re-contextualization: theoretical issues and examples. Background knowledge.

5.       

Contextual phenomena: deixis, given-new. Co-textual phenomena: cohesion, coherence. Text organization.

6.       

A closer look into deixis: some theoretical and practical issues (person, time, place).

7.       

Deixis research, and deixis in translation.

8.       

Revision of issues. Study questions. Exercises.

9.       

Understanding speech acts. Direct, indirect speech acts. Felicity conditions. Macro-functions.

10.    

Speech acts in practice. Cultural issues. Translating and interpreting speech acts.

11.    

The Cooperative Principle. The maxims and violating the maxims.

12.    

Examples of the maxims in translation. Reading: Relevance Theory.

13.    

Politeness. Negative and positive politeness. Negative and positive face. The cultural context.

14.    

Reading about politeness. Translation and interpreting and politeness. Revision of concepts covered.

15.    

Final test.
